For the lover of the outdoors, this is paradise. The Highlands – Cashiers Plateau boasts primeval forests found nowhere else on earth. Scientists come from all over the world to study the diversity of this region… you can enjoy it just walking to get the paper.
Yellow Mountain is the highest peak in the Cashiers area. Climbing to 5,127 feet, this beautiful edifice features 4.8 miles of hiking trails, breathtaking views, and a bevy of interesting plant life.
Its towering neighbor to the South, Whiteside Mountain, boasts the highest vertical drop east of the Mississippi River. Its magnificent cliffs attract hikers, mountain climbers, hang gliders, and even the endangered Peregrine Falcon. Some scientists suggest that this is the oldest mountain in the world.
If waterfalls strike your fancy, head on out to Whitewater Falls. The highest waterfall east of the Rockies, this amazing cascade drops 411 feet. And the lovely park and surrounding area makes a perfect setting for fun with the family.
